Neither I am too old nor too young. But I have learned a lot from my life. Life is a continuous learning experience. Today whatever lessons I am specifying in this article, I have literally learned recently. Throughout my life I kept rising and falling, picking up important lessons along the way. Some of these lessons came from experience, yet others learn to watch others or read in books. No matter how much I learn from the books there is a significant difference between practical and theoretical experience. Furthermore, there are many life lessons that I simply cannot learn until I face certain situations in my life. Most people would say that some lessons come too late, catching me off-guard and unprepared.

The following list unveils some of the most important lessons in life that I learned the hard way.

1. Walk your own path

People like to judge other people. This peer pressure made me stray from the path I started to carve for my future. So, I’ve stopped thinking about other people’s aspirations and stopped letting someone else’s goals and dreams influence my vision of life. It’s my path, and I’ll decide where it takes me and how long it takes me to see it through.

“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it”.

2. Don’t hesitate when you should act

There is an old Roman proverb that people often quote — “Carpe diem” — meaning “Seize the day”. More often than not, I failed to act due to a lack of confidence or courage. This hesitation kept me from moving forward and puts me in a cage of wondering what might have been. But now, when I feel it’s time to act, I always take action. No matter the outcome, I will definitely end up smarter than before.

“Make up your mind to act decidedly and take the consequences. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation.”

3. Experience what you have learned

“Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience. You need experience to gain wisdom.”

No matter how much I think I know about some topic, it’s only after I have put that knowledge into used to confirm the actual level of understanding that I possess. Sure, I could read about painting, learn all the techniques and brush types, color palettes, etc. but only when I get in front of a canvas and start painting I put my knowledge to the test.

As EduGeeksClub’s career expert, Julia Smith once wrote:

“Young people often face difficulties when it comes to putting what they have learned into practice; therefore all this knowledge becomes useless when it should be the fuel that propels their careers”.

4. Good things don’t come easy

If I want to have a good life with a successful career, emotional satisfaction, and trustworthy friends I have to work hard. Luck can take me only so far and the rest is entirely up to me, the amount of effort I put in every day, and the ability to learn from my mistakes. So, I’ve stopped believing that someone else is going to fight my battles with the same vigor and devotion as I would.

“Nothing comes easy in life. If you wait for sunrise… You must survive in dark night…”

5. Never fail to try more

Even when I'm feeling most prepared there is a chance I fail in accomplishing my goal. The same way an athlete could lead the entire race only to fall just in front of the finish line and lose. This doesn’t mean the athlete should stop competing; on the contrary, he would work even harder for the next competition. The results will come, eventually.

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

6. Take care of your health early

When I am young I can push my body to its limits day after day. It seems as nothing can touch me, and I am invincible. However, as I grow older all the parties, drinking, smoking, and eating fast food take a toll on my health. So, I’ve started developing healthy habits, and now I take regular checkups with my doctor and dentist to prevent future problems.

“To ensure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.”

7. Make every moment count

Life goes by faster than I thought. When I was in my twenties I thought I’ll stay there forever, but before I knew it, I was in my thirties, and it’s too late for the things I wanted to do as a young person. So, I’ve started living my life to its full extent because I know life is short, and I never know what tomorrow brings.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.”

8. Live and let live

I often try to help people when I see they’re making a mistake. This type of behavior led me into all kinds of troubles and misunderstandings. So I’ve stopped forcing my ideas onto others and let those who want my help and guidance seek me out. Sometimes I should stay away and let them come to me, or I might seem intrusive to others.

“You start to live when you commit your life to cause higher than yourself. You must learn to depend on divine power for the fulfillment of a higher calling.”

9. Be flexible with your goals

Sometimes I feel it’s the right time to take action and put my plans in motion only to realize that I was wrong. It’s important to analyze my current position and how my activities could influence my future. Sometimes it’s better to postpone a certain goal or even change it for the time being. Accepting a promotion in a bad time could get me in more trouble than good if the time is not right.

“Our disposition must be flexible enough to adapt to changes in the environment, and that will allow us to win at life.”

10. For every action, there’s an equal opposite reaction

Before I say something or act in a certain way, I always think about the consequences. A person could be unprepared to hear some truth or won’t respond well to my gesture, no matter how good my intentions are. That’s why I always treat each word with caution.

“Don’t be gullible, use life before it uses you. Understand there are no free lunches, and for every action you take, there’s a reaction.”

I still wish I could learn all these important lessons when I was young.

I’d love to give a piece of advice, if you are still young then apply these principles as early as possible. So, take these pieces of advice as guidance, not as a rule. Your life is your own, and you know what’s best for you. However, keep in mind that morning is wiser than evening. Enjoy life!

Thanks for reading this article. I hope now, you will be able to live your life much better than it was before. If you’ve also learned anything extra or different from your life then feel free to share it via comments.

Once again,

ENJOY LIFE!!
